From Naval’s Notes:
Mr. Cassidy has created his first graphic score for his latest take on Instant Cinema. Its title will remain a secret, even to himself, until after the piece has been performed. However, the short history of this new work is no mystery. In fact, thanks to Adam Kendall’s fabulous Video Composer’s Workshop at Diapason Gallery, Naval has been hard at work converting a hand drawn score of eight voices into five electronic midi scores that manipulate different parts of his video and audio mix. The three voices left are to be read by his fellow performers; two on camera, one on AM radio; plus various shtick in between the sections to cleanse your palette.

Scientists and artists alike are concerned that the third meeting of
Naval Cassidy and Michael Evans might cause unusual sun spot activity. The
first meeting was said to have caused spontaneous birthing from unwed
mothers. The second meeting caused a temporary dislocation in the
space/time continuum surrounding Judson Church. Sound ripples and light
waves that emanated from these two separately have cause economic and
social disruption throughout the city. United again to face a well-daunted
public, you can see a troubled sun waiting for extra excitation.
Michael Evans is an improvising drummer/percussionist/thereminist/composer
whose work investigates and embraces the collision of sound and theatrics.
Besides being a drum set player, his work with unusual sound sources
includes found objects, homemade instruments,various digital and
homemade analog electronics. He has worked with a wide variety of artists

This event presents a unique live video performance which blends unusual found objects, improvisational visual collage, and a warped sense of humor. new york artist jonathan giles performs as “naval cassidy’s instant cinema.” naval uses video cameras to capture and magnify small props which he then manipulates while he projects the images. in this real-time spectacle, naval pulls delirious visions out of discarded broken objects, simply by placing each one under the watchful eye of his surveillance cameras. this special program is a collision of damaged human collateral and broken, forgotten artifacts of today’s age gone tomorrow.

Colliding and blending with a melange of peculiar objects selected specifically for this event, Naval’s special blend of Instant Cinema will tease moldy dreams and bittersweet memories from the dust of pocked streets, empty factories, and sagging traffic lights.
